Sunray’s Precision Engineering Creates the Perfect Fit
The Sunray engineering team’s reputable skill for bespoke design and precision engineering was put to the test last month with an unusual job, involving the creation of a steel security doorset for a utilities station based offshore.
Simple, you might think? Only, the doorway was obstructed by a 254x145mm steel I-Beam, around which the double-leaf security doorset was required to close.
“We needed to create a custom security door that not only provided high levels of intruder resistance, but also accommodated a large I-Beam that ran directly though the centre of the doorway” explained Martin Spink, Sunray’s Manufacturing and Systems Engineer.
“Being a security door, it was imperative that the door was designed to accommodate the exact measurements of the beam, and with minimal tolerance. This demanded a careful consultation process and meticulous engineering to ensure that the final product was a perfect fit. The locking function was designed to work around the restrictions created by the beam, and a demountable frame was incorporated to enable the easy installation of the door over the beam.
“At Sunray we pride ourselves on getting a product right, first time. Once we had designed and created the door, we created a mock-up of the I-Beam itself within our factory, to ensure a perfect fit. Despite the lengthy consultation and design process, we were able to deliver the finished product within our standard timeframe.”
Sunray’s engineering team recognise that every project is different, and we pride ourselves on creating bespoke, physical solutions that response to specific project needs, and help to overcome site or building constraints.
Our market-leading range of security doors, grilles and louvres have been third-party tested and certified by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) to Loss Prevention Standards (LPS) 1175 Issue 7, from levels 1-6. Designed to provide extremely high levels of intruder resistance; our security range is ideal for sites where asset protection is of paramount importance.
